Kimon Bekelis, MD

Chairman & Co-Founder

Dr. Bekelis is a neurosurgeon with subspecialty training in minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery. He is the Chairman of Neuro-interventional Services for Catholic Health Services of Long Island, the Director of the Stroke and Brain Aneurysm Center of Long Island at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and the co-director of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at GSHMC. He is also an Assistant Professor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and the Director of the Population Health Research Institute of New York at CHSLI.

George Kakoulides, MD

George Kakoulides, MD

President & Co-Founder

Dr. Kakoulides is a neurosurgeon and filmmaker. While obtaining his medical degree at Tufts University, he was also in a joint degree program in International Relations at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He and Dr. Bekelis combined their unique backgrounds during neurosurgery residency training at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to conduct a randomized controlled trial using virtual reality with patients in a perioperative clinical setting.

Tim co-founded IKONA after his own patient experience in the US Navy. Following his eighteen-month patient journey, Tim spent two years as a technology-focused equities trader on Wall Street where he learned the true potential for immersive technologies in healthcare. After meeting and learning of Drs. Bekelis' and Kakoulides' research, he knew firsthand that this might help solve a critical pain point for patients. Now, he’s recruited a team of top multi-disciplinary talent to help change the way we experience and understand healthcare.


Trish Richardson, MSN, RN, CMSRN

Clinical Education & Program Development

Master’s prepared nurse with 27 years of experience in healthcare who has served in a number of leadership positions, including as Director of Clinical Education for a 16,000-employee health network. She is passionate about improving the patient experience and assisting organizations with designing clinical education and professional development initiatives.

A learning scientist and former University Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience. Todd’s passion is to apply his 25 years of scientific and neuroscientific expertise, gained by managing a large human learning and performance laboratory, to help build training solutions that effectively engage the brain.

Clinical Content & Implementation

A Critical Care Nurse Practitioner who oversees our clinical content development. Her experiences supervising Advanced Practice Providers and the Neuro-ICU in a large hospital setting have been invaluable in enabling us to understand and serve the needs of patients and front line staff in all settings.

An Emmy-nominated, Webby-honored filmmaker and story designer specializing in emerging and interactive media. Kel is a Sundance New Frontier Artist-in-Residence and an Eisenhower Fellow, and was The Economist's first Senior Media Lab Fellow. His work has been recognized by leading organizations and festivals including The Tim Hetherington Trust, Tribeca, SXSW, the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Rencontres d'Arles, AFI and many more.

Director of Kidney & Pancreas Transplant Surgery, University of Chicago

Yolanda T. Becker, MD, is an expert surgeon. She specializes in kidney and pancreas transplantation, dialysis access surgery and living-donor procedures. Also a respected physician scientist, Dr. Becker is widely known for her clinical research on reducing transplant rejection rates and her basic research in immunology. She has authored more than 100 scientific articles and abstracts in publications, such as the American Journal of TransplantationTransplantation and Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation.

Richard Wood, PhD

Director of Clinical Education, Virta Health

Rich is a passionate leader and experienced cross-functional problem solver with scientific expertise in metabolic health. He believes in science-based and data-driven approaches to improve the lives of those living with chronic metabolic disease. Rich is currently the Director of Clinical Education for Virta Health, a company using clinically-proven treatment to reverse type 2 diabetes in 100 million people by 2025. 

Marc Leighton

Strategy Partner at Cleveland Clinic

Marc is a proven healthcare leader with a track record of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and delivering value to customers and teams in complex organizations. He has a diverse background in strategy and growth, global product management (software and devices), revenue cycle operations, management consulting, and digital transformation. Prior to his current role leading strategy initiatives at Cleveland Clinic, Marc served as Global Director of Education Solutions at GE Healthcare.
